Halloween Prep: Ghoulish Grub & Spooky Sips


Happy Hallo-wine!

Halloween is lurking right around the corner and there is no better time than now to start prepping for this night of haunting! Whether you are taking the kiddos out for some trick-or-treating or spending the night with your ‘ boo ‘ and some scary movies, having some holiday themed drinks and snacks is the perfect way to show your spirit! Here are some amazing foodie finds and wine lover drinks that we have stumbled upon to share with you!

Spooky Sips


Black Sangria Recipe
1 bottle Apothic Dark
2 cups organic blackberries, washed
4 black plums, washed and sliced
1/4 cup brandy
2 cups black grapes, washed
1 cup sparkling water if you desire, but you don’t have to if you want a strong wine taste.

Add everything into a pitcher and mix with a large spoon. Let it sit in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. The longer it sits the darker the plums become.

Caramel-Apple-Sangria-3-480x724Caramel Apple Sangria
1 bottle white wine
1 bottle sparkling apple cider
¼ cup caramel syrup
4 apples, chopped

Chill your white wine and sparkling apple cider. Once cold, mix together wine and cider and add ¼ cup caramel syrup. Chop approximately 4 apples into small cubes and add to sangria. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Ghoulish Grub

Poison Toffee AppleToffee-Apples-3
2 cups granulated sugar
¾ cups water
½ cup liquid glucose/light corn syrup
A few drops black gel food coloring
6 Granny Smith apples (or 12 small apples) (fresh and haven’t been waxed)

Grease a piece of baking paper, place on baking sheet. Insert bamboo skewers in apples and set aside. In a medium pot, combine sugar, water, glucose/corn syrup and food coloring.  Stir over medium heat until sugar has dissolved and mixture feels smooth when rubbed between fingers.

When the sugar has dissolved, turn the heat up and wash the sides of the pot down with a pastry brush and clean water. Allow the caramel to boil until it reaches the hard crack stage (150°c/310°F). Carefully dip the apples into the hot candy mixture and place on the baking paper. Set and cool for 1 hr before serving.

Dirt Jelly Worms
1 package (6 ounces) raspberry or grape flavor gelatinworms-b2
3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
3 cups boiling water
¾ cup whipping cream (to make the worms cloudy)
12 to 15 drops green food coloring
100 straws with bendable necks (important!) (or enough to fill your container)
Tall container (1 quart or 1 liter carton of milk)
1 package (about 15 ounces) Oreo Cookies

Combine gelatins in bowl and add boiling water. Let it cool to lukewarm. Add whipping cream and 15 drops green food coloring. Gently pull straws to extend to full length. Stand the straws upright in a large container – make sure the end is firmly pressed against the bottom of the container. Wrap the ends of the straws tightly in cling film. Gently pour the jelly into the straw until it reaches the top. Leave in the fridge to set. Once set, use your fingers and squeeze the jello out. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour or up to 2 days.

Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor (or, place the cookies in a resealable plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin). Arrange jelly worms in a bowl with oreo crumbs and serve.
